Reforming Europe

Abstract

Getting ready for the sun after the storm. Short-term solutions for the current financial/economic crisis are consistent with the social market economy. However, these solutions may hamper the effectiveness of the common market, which should be defended by the centre-right. In the absence of political integration, the common market is the foundation of the EU and remains its greatest achievement. If the market loses its credibility, then the EU itself is at risk as an institution.
