Abstract

The service-oriented architecture (SOA) approach and the corresponding web service standards such as WSDL [5] and SOAP [21] are currently adopted in various fields of distributed application development (e.g. enterprise application integration, web application development, inter-organizational workflow collaboration) XE “inter-organizational workflow collaboration”. The Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) [9, 8] incorporates the web service paradigm in the field of Grid Computing [9, 20] as an approach towards defining the service-oriented Grid. The service-oriented Grid paradigm offers the potential to provide a fine grained virtualization of the available resources to significantly increase the versatility of a Grid. The OGSA effort to add stateful interaction to the web service environment has also been recognized by other web service users not focused on Grid computing. As a result, the specifications of the Web Service Resource Framework (WSRF) [14] have emerged.
