Abstract

This edited book brings together a collection of work from around the world in order to consider effective STEM education from a range of perspectives. This opening chapter outlines the key challenges in research, policy and practice for STEM education, from early childhood through to senior secondary education. The chapter describes the context for the development of the book, including the political and educational imperatives that underpin current approaches to STEM education around the world. Finally, it introduces the content of the chapters within the volume, noting the range, breadth and implications of various positions described by the chapter authors.
