Abstract
Individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual/developmental disabilities are more likely to display aggression and property destruction than the general population. It is known that aggression and property destruction are often learned, operant behavior. From this framework, we will discuss potential treatments for aggression and property destruction, followed by considerations when implementing treatment in the natural environment. We will then review crisis management procedures relevant to aggression and property destruction and discuss alternative learning mechanisms that should be considered when addressing such severe behavior.
