Abstract
Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel on earth. For thousands of years, mankind has used coal as a fuel for cooking and source of heat. People in ancient time relied on wood as a main fuel more than coal because wood was easily obtainable. After that, fuel oil became more popular due to its affordable price. Since the Industrial Revolution in England, Europe, and America, coal has been an essential fuel. Furthermore, the energy crisis in 2018 and 1979 stimulates the popularity of coal as a promising alternative source of energy, owing to its low price. Coal is naturally abundant and therefore can be used for the next hundred years. However, it is necessary to consider the potential effects of coal energy usage on the environment.
