Abstract

Reimbursement for telemedicine services is a complex, dynamic, and continuously evolving issue. Despite advances and expansion in Medicare reimbursement for telemedicine, the provision of these services is still limited by compliance requirements. Additionally, the inherent variability of reimbursement policy and legislation from state to state for Medicaid and private payers further complicates the issue. This chapter discusses the current requirements for telemedicine reimbursement, with a focus on Medicare, which remains the de facto standard for many state Medicaid and private insurance programs.
