Zusammenfassung
Die USA erleben eine Renaissance der fossilen Energieträger. Schiefergas wird schon seit mehreren Jahren in großem Stil gefördert, nun kommt unkonventionelles Öl hinzu. Dadurch wird das Land unabhängiger von Energieimporten, was der heimischen Wirtschaft zugutekommt und den außenpolitischen Spielraum vergrößern könnte. Gleichzeitig verhindert der Stillstand im US-Kongress umwelt- und klimapolitische Reformen. Durch Regulierungen wie Emissionsstandards für Kraftwerke und Fahrzeuge versucht Präsident Obama die politische Blockade zu umgehen.
Der Beitrag wurde Anfang März 2014 finalisiert. Entwicklungen nach März wurden in der Analyse nicht mehr berücksichtigt.
