ABSTRACT

Some guerilla and anti-guerilla techniques have already been touched upon in preceding chapters, together with operational or tactical aspects, and the people will now deal with the remaining items, especially guerilla attacks on railways, installations and convoys, and with anti-guerilla sweeps. Railway tracks are the favorite guerilla target for ambushes, preferably in deep cuts, on slopes, curves, and high embankments; other objects, such as bridges, signals, water hydrants and reservoirs or railway stations, are usually better guarded. For attacks on railway and other installations the detachment is usually divided into three groups—an assault group, which removes the guards and destroys communications, a demolition group which destroys the target, and a reserve group. Strong forces of mixed units advance from the encircling line towards the centre of the ring or the known guerilla camp while the other encircling troops stay put.
