Brasilia constructed in the middle of the Campo Cerrado. In the years since, the surrounding area has been completely urbanized. The Campo Cerrado savanna vegetation has nearly disappeared from the Brazilian landscape, largely replaced by soybean farming (photo by Rick Bein, 1971).

Brothers Pancho and Horacio Goettig from the village of Aldea San Francisco, Entre Rios Province, Argentina. Their immigrant Volga-German family had worked the land there since 1878. They both died in their 50s in 1994, Pancho from cancer and his younger brother Horacio from a broken heart (they say). Richard Wilkie photographed them every seven to eight years in the same kitchen from 1966 to 1991 (photo by Richard Wilkie, 1972).

This photo was taken in 1974 on George Lovell's first ever trip to Latin America, undertaking fieldwork in the Mixteca Alta of Mexico. The town square of Teposcolula is no longer where the market takes place. The town is all spruced up now, as is the magnificent Dominican church in the background (photo by W. George Lovell, 1974).
