A 53-year-old African-American woman with a 10-year history of hypertension presented to a tertiary-care hospital with a 1-week history of gross hematuria; polyarticular synovitis involving the right knee, hip, and shoulder joints; and a history of Raynaud phenomenon for 12 months before admission. Lupus nephritis is a heterogeneous group of immune-complex–mediated processes with different patterns of glomerular injury and frequent involvement of vascular and tubulointerstitial compartments of renal parenchyma.
