ABSTRACT

Various follow-up encounters with the family took place in the period approximately 15 to 18 years after the end of the infant observation visits. Three follow-up home visits took place at one-year intervals beginning approximately 15 years after the end of the three-year period of infant observation. It was evident that changes had gradually taken place in this lapse of time within the family, in particular in the sextuplet group. Some of the sextuplets greeted the observer with a smile, others gave no sign of recognition. The group of sextuplets appeared to be divided between those who were projected outwards towards new relationships and those more withdrawn and solitary. Sexual impulses originating in the body are experienced as threatening and are neither held at bay nor integrated, indicating failure of the central masturbatory fantasy. Omission of body parts signifies difficulty in making contact and conflicting feelings about one's sexuality.
